Varrio Loud (LD), also known as Loud 13 (LD13) or LD Gang, is a predominantly Hispanic street gang based in the Loud district of unincorporated Los Angeles County, California. This gang originated on the West Side of Loud in the 1960s, with approximately 650 members, according to the LAPD. Loud 13 consists of several Dukes (DKS), Pee Wees (PWS), Winos (WNS), Cycos and Night Owls. Loud 13, originally known as Loud or Varrio Louds, adopted “13” (Sureno 13) in the early 1990s. The number 13 indicates its alliance with La Mafia Mexicana, a notorious criminal organization based in California's prison systems. Loud 13 is known to be east of Los Angeles Airport (LAX). The neighborhood stretches from La Brea Ave to the 405 freeway, between 104th and 111th Streets. Part of its territory also extends into the nearby cities of Glendale and Lawndale, California. News reports that in 2011, nearly 500 local, state and federal agencies arrested 27 people in connection with the Lennox 13, following an eighteen-month criminal investigation by the Narcotics Enforcement Administration, along with the Los Angeles Gang and Drug Task Force and several other law enforcement agencies. The operation involved U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HISI), which focused primarily on the drug trafficking operation.!
